Born in Nettuno in 1856. Valeri studied painting at the Academy of San Luca. In the early years of 1880 he taught at the Sanayi-i Nefise in Istanbul. He gave private painting lessons to the sons of Sultan Abdulhamid II and he has been honored with the title of "teacher of sehzades (sultans' sons - princes). Valeri used various techniques such as oil, pastel and watercolor and reached an outstanding success with his figures. Strong color and light effect of Orientalist painting were elements that brought life to Valeri's compositions. He had strong influence on Turkish artists of his time with his teaching career of 25 years.
